Pool A of the 2011 FIVB World League – Volleyball Preview
The men’s volleyball premier competition, the 2011 FIVB World League, is scheduled to start off on Friday, May 27. A total of 16 volleyball squads from all across the globe will join the battle for supremacy. The teams have been initially divided into four pools:
* Pool A – Brazil, Poland, United States, and Puerto Rico
* Pool B – Russia, Bulgaria, Germany, and Japan
* Pool C – Serbia, Argentina, Portugal, and Finland
* Pool D – Cuba, Italy, France, and Korea
It is generally believed that Pool A of the tournament is the most difficult one. It has the defending champion Brazil; the U.S. team, which captured the title of the 2010 FIVB Grand Prix; Poland, which has already been confirmed for the Final Round and Puerto Rico, the rising team which has the utmost desire to become the top sensation of the tournament. All four of them are totally shaped up to rock the podium at 2011 FIVB World League.
The Brazilian head coach, Bernardo Rezende has assembled a great line-up, which is equipped with all the necessary tools and tricks of the game. The Brazilian squad is composed of experienced players and Rezende is confident that his boys will do well at the upcoming event. The only problem he stated was the short training time as the team had very little time to play together. Most of the players were busy at various local and foreign clubs. Nonetheless, they made good use of the last 10 days and underwent extensive training.
Yesterday, the Brazilian team was exposed to the media, where coach Rezende stated the main objective of his team in the preliminarys. He said, “Our goal is to be among the top two teams after the 12 matches of this round and move up to the next phase”.
Brazil will open the tournament by taking on Puerto Rico. The captain of Brazilian team, Gilberto Godoy, expressed his views about the competitors. He said that Puerto Rico is a respectable team with a good squad. Godoy acknowledged that the Puerto Ricans have improved a lot over the past few years. They have beaten some tough rivals like Portugal and China in the qualification tournament and it will be a tough battle against them in the first round.
On the other hand, Puerto Rico is also busy making plans for the big encounter with Brazil. The captain of the Puerto Rican Team, Hector Soto, is pretty confident about a spectacular display of volleyball at the 2011 FIVB World League. Remembering last year, he said that they were close to beating Russia at the 2010 FIVB Volleyball World Championship. Soto seemed confident about facing the defending champions Brazil in the upcoming matches. He stated the chief motive of his team is to grow and move forward.
The mentor of Team Puerto Rico, Carlos Cardona, shared his thoughts and said, “It is a very tough debut against a team like Brazil. We are not the favourites so we will try to be the surprise team. It is the start of the international season and we have to make quick adjustments. Our main goal is to prepare our team for the Olympic qualification and the group is motivated to achieve that dream. Our pool is extremely difficult but we are prepared for the battle and we are going to learn a lot.”
The Americans are also enjoying top form. They have demonstrated some stellar performances in their last matches. The U.S. team is determined to improve its ranking on the world chart this year.
The Polish team has a competitive edge in the game. The Final Round of the 2011 FIVB World League will be played at Gdansk, Poland. That’s why the Poles will automatically get the right to play in the final round. Since they are already confirmed for the final stage, they won’t have any pressure on them in the preliminary stage. It would only serve as a practice session for them. Team USA will have a tough competition with Poland in the preliminary round.
